The Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences investigates topics that have the potential to generate and transform technologies of the future. In partnership with national and international organizations, NRC-SIMS develops innovative materials, processes and technologies in the areas of advanced optics, nanomaterials and molecular diagnostics.

Summary

The Institute contributes, through in-depth research, to the solution of key problems in the areas of human health, alternative energies, environmental remediation, as well as communication and information quantum technologies.

The research groups within the Institute are: 

  • Biomolecular Sensing and Imaging;
  • Atomic, Molecular and Optical Science;
  • Molecular and Nanomaterials Architecture;
  • Material Structure and Function;
  • Theory and Computation;
  • Canadian Neutron Beam Centre (Chalk River).

The Institute also provides training to a large number of young scientists and students through the following programs:

  • Research Associateship Program;
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Postdoctoral Program;
  • Women in Engineering and Science Program;
  • Summer Students;
  • Co-op Students;
  • Graduate students.
