Industry Canada (IC)

Last Verified: 2006-08-15

Located in Ottawa's west end, Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC), an agency of Industry Canada, is the Canadian government's primary laboratory for research and development (R&D) in advanced telecommunications. With a staff of more than 230 research engineers and scientists, CRC closes innovation gaps in the telecommunications sector; builds technical intelligence; has the vision to anticipate major telecommunications trends and supports Canadian telecommunications firms in their efforts to remain globally competitive.

Eligibility Criteria

Canadian high technology companies of all sizes, universities, research organizations and other government departments involved in communications R&D.

The internationally renowned researchers and dedicated technologists can help governments, universities and private industry access and evaluate technology opportunities. The CRC has more than 100 protected technologies, with dozens more under development ready for commercialization through licensing agreements or collaborative ventures. The CRC's Business Development Office can respond quickly to negotiate licensing or collaborative research agreements as well as service contracts.

The CRC has many collaborative R&D arrangements with companies, universities and research organizations in Canada and abroad. It is associated with research centres across Canada such as TRLabs in Alberta and the Canadian Centre for Marine Communications in Newfoundland. Internationally the CRC has collaborative projects with many foreign research centres such as European Space Agency, U.S. Air Force Research Lab, Communications Research Lab in Japan, C-DOT of India, the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland, and many others.
