The Processing and Environmental Catalysis program focuses its R&D efforts on improving the carbon and thermal efficiency of chemical processing. It develops enabling technologies for applications in a number of indusrial sectors.
Eligibility Criteria
This program area is targeted for the following industries: chemical, petrochemical, oil recycling, industrial, bio-fuel, natural gas processing.
Summary
The following technology areas are currently being addressed:
- energy efficient routes to produce hydrogen and value-added products from natural gas and light hydrocarbons;
- treatment and purification of waste oils;
- blending of biomass-derived fuels for stationary and transportation use;
- removal of NOx pollutants from mobile sources;
- conversion of low grade heat to electricity;
- separation and utilization of carbon dioxide;
- high temperature membrane development and application;
- multifunctional fuel cell reactors for coproduction of power and value-added products;
- carbon-free ammonia fuel cells;
- high cetane blending stock from renewable sources;
- low temperature hydrogen production from biomass feedstock.
