T he Market Support Division (TMM) of International Trade Canada has a group of trade promotion specialists dedicated to promoting the trade interests of cultural industries and marketing Canadian initiatives abroad. The TMM also collaborates with a network of partners to help arts and cultural companies realize their export development objectives.

The Canadian cultural trade associations provide TMM with private sector insight to develop international trade initiatives that meet the needs of the industry. It fosters links to companies through the associations, offering support to fulfill their export development mandates, to establish an international profile of their members and to serve as a catalyst for the development of a sound export marketing strategy.

Eligibility Criteria

The Division offers trade promotion services to export-ready companies in the following sectors:

  • aboriginal cultural industries;
  • book publishing;
  • broadcasting;
  • contemporary crafts;
  • film and television;
  • multimedia;
  • sound recording; and
  • visual arts.

Eligible Activities

The services provided include:

  • network access to promote a company around the world;
  • links to key Canadian partners and contacts;
  • foreign market studies on cultural industries;
  • support services to new exporters through the associations;
  • events where companies and individuals can meet potential foreign partners;
  • missions for export-ready companies to new markets; and
  • web site on arts and cultural industries.

Activities undertaken by associations must be part of a long-term international business plan and must be for the benefit of the association members and the industry.

Summary

The Division offers a range of export development services to help export-ready companies develop a presence in foreign markets. It offers the information and the tools needed to give a clear view of the international scene.
