Placer-Occupant Review Policy |
The federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND) and the territorial Department of Community and Transportation Services have prepared an application process for placer claim holders in the Klondike Valley. Presently, the Yukon Placer Mining Act (YPMA) provides residential privileges for placer claim holders who are operating their claims for the sole purpose of mining. The application process established will allow claim holders, no longer actively mining, to purchase, at fair marker value, surface tenure for residential and non-residential improvements in exchange for subsurface rights. Where possible, the process will provide alternate options when no land tenure is obtainable, such as relocation to an available site for sale or lease.--Background |
