Provincial and Territorial Benefits
Provincial and territorial governments offer a variety of benefits and programs to assist seniors. These vary by province or territory and may include, for example, income, transportation and housing assistance, health care programs, tax assistance and in some cases, social assistance.

- Canada Benefits

- Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC)
CDIC provides protection for eligible deposits in member institutions, including banks, and trust and loan companies. The Corporation ensures that member institutions operate according to its standards of sound business and financial practices. CDIC's site includes information on deposit insurance.
- Canada Pension Plan Investment Board
The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board is a Crown corporation dedicated to investing funds not required by the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) to pay current pensions. This site describes the objectives and activities of the Board.
- Canadian Government Annuities
The Canadian Government Annuities Branch administers contracts on behalf of individuals who have contributed towards the purchase of an Annuity either on their own or through their employers as part of a pension plan. The Branch is responsible for the administration of Annuities currently under payment as well as those to become payable at a later date.

The CAFP is the membership organization of Canada's financial planners. This site provides information on what a financial planner is, the steps involved in financial planning, a free service to ask financial planners questions via e-mail, and a geographic directory of financial planners.
- Advocis - The Financial Advisors Association of Canada
Advocis is the brand name of The Financial Advisors Association of Canada. In September 2002, members of the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (CAIFA) and the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP) voted in favour of merging their two groups to create Advocis, Canada's largest association of professional financial advisors, with members in 50 chapters across the country.
- Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA)
CAPSA is a national association of pension supervisory authorities whose goal is to facilitate an efficient and effective pension regulatory system in Canada. This site provides links to the various provincial offices that regulate pension plans.
- Canadian Bankers Association (CBA)
The CBA is a professional industry association representing Canada's chartered banks. This bilingual site contains information on a variety of financial matters, including a brochure on "Planning for Retirement" and "There's Something About Money" for youth.
- Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA)
CLHIA represents most of Canada's life and health insurance companies. This bilingual site contains information on life and health insurance and segregated funds.
- Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA)
The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) is the umbrella association of securities regulators from the ten provinces and three territories. Their site offers educational material for adults and children on investing, including tips for investors, articles and publications, and an Investor Alert section. Many of the Provincial Securities Commissions also have information on their sites for investors.
- Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC)
This organization establishes and enforces standards for financial planners who earn the designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP). It provides information on financial planning and maintains a directory of all CFP licensed financial planners in Canada.
- Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC)
IFIC is the member association of the investment funds industry of Canada. Their goal is to improve the knowledge of people who invest in investment funds. Look under Investor Information for information about investing in mutual funds.
- Investment Dealers Association (IDA)
The Investment Dealers Association of Canada is the national self-regulatory organization and trade association for the Canadian securities industry. The Investor's Corner on their web site has information on investor protection and regulation. It also has a special section for new investors.
- Investor Learning Centre (ILC)
The ILC is an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing non-promotional investment education to Canadians. Their site has many resources about investing, such as information on all aspects of investing, investor advisories, on-line seminars and quizzes, financial calculators, and investment links.
- Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI)
The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions regulates federally administered private pension plans. The Pension section of their web site includes a Pension Guide for Members of Federally Regulated Private Pension Plans that contains useful information about pension plans in Canada.
