Legal Access Policy Division

The Legal Access Policy Division (LAPD) manages the Ministry's funding contributions to the Legal Services Society, an independent statutory agency that provides legal services in B.C. The LAPD works with the Society, other government and non-government organizations and the public to ensure that the legal aid services are provided in the most effective and efficient ways possible.

Justice Services Branch staff sit on the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Permanent Working Group on Legal Aid. They negotiate federal-provincial cost-share agreements, provide policy advice to government where appropriate and develop policy and/or proposals for legislative amendments. They are the primary liaison with the Legal Services Society and other government, non-government organizations and the public regarding legal aid and public legal education in British Columbia.
