What are my responsibilities after I file a claim?

If you need ongoing medical treatments:

  2. Ask you health care providers to send reports to the WCB of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut;
  3. Follow the treatment plan developed by your health care providers;
  4. Discuss your progress with your physician so you understand when you can return to work;
  5. Inform your adjudicator or case manager of any changes in your medical recovery;
  6. Regularly discuss your progress, a possible return-to-work date, and if necessary, alternative work options, with your employer;
  7. Regularly contact your adjudicator or case manager;
  8. Tell your adjudicator or case manager when your doctor tells you that you are fit to return to work;
  9. Understand and follow all work restrictions, if you return to work early, so your re-employment is safe for everyone;
  10. Advise the WCB of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut if you stop working or need to change your duties because of your injury;
  11. Keep receipts for expenses directly related to your workplace injury;
  12. Use your claim number when you write letters to, or call the WCB of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut;
  13. Advise your adjudicator or case manager if you will be leaving the Territory or if you are moving out of the Territory; and
  14. Participate fully in modified work accommodations made available by your employer and supported by your treating physician.

Managing your Claim

While receiving WCB benefits, you have certain responsibilities. Your job during this time is to focus on returning to work that is safe, and within your physical (functional) abilities. You share this responsibility with your employer and must work together to achieve it.

It is important that you co-operate in efforts to return you to work in a safe and timely manner. We are looking to you for full commitment by keeping in regular touch with your employer, making suggestions about how you could return to work while recovering and participating in whatever assessments/ programs are arranged.

     Co-operation can include things like:

  1. Regular attendance at programs arranged for you
  2. Keeping in touch with us, your employer and any service providers that may be involved
  3. Completing and returning WCB forms promptly
  4. Keeping appointments and being on time for them
  5. Taking every reasonable measure to ensure the success of your recovery
  6. Telling us about any important change in the status of your claim and eligibility for WCB Loss of Earning Benefits (known as “material change in circumstances”).
