The Governance Council has the authority and mandate to establish policies for the implementation of the Workers’ Compensation Acts, the Safety Acts, the Mine Health and Safety Acts and the Explosives Use Acts. It is committed to reviewing individual policies every three years and approves an annual Comprehensive Policy Review Plan to ensure that WCB policies remain current and effective.

 Based on the purpose and mandate of the WCB, the Governance Council will establish and oversee processes to:

  • annually review the Comprehensive Policy Review Plan to facilitate effective policy introduction, revision, withdrawal and disposition;
  • ensure that a comprehensive, appropriate policy framework exists;
  • develop, implement and monitor policies to respond to identified needs that ensure accountability, transparency, clarity and stewardship; and
  • ensure appropriate stakeholder engagement in the policy review and development process.
