Labour Program Ontario Region Profile

The Labour Program Ontario Region strives to promote a fair, safe, healthy, stable, cooperative and productive work environment that contributes to the social and economic well-being of all Canadians.

Over 4600 employers with 15,690 work sites and over 1,528,000 employees fall under federal jurisdiction. Only about 10% of workers and businesses in Canada are covered by federal Labour legislation; the rest fall under provincial jurisdiction. Find out if you are covered by federal or provincial labour law.

For information about labour standards or working conditions under the provincial labour law, go to the Provincial Ministry of Labour World Wide Web site where the business is located.

In Ontario, the program is administered through the Regional Office and is made up of 4 key components:

District Operation
Fire Protection Services
Injury Compensation (Government Employees Compensation Act [GECA])
Workplace Equity Services

In addition, The Labour Program responds to emergency situations such as refusals to work, and fatalities, outside of regularly scheduled hours of service. Emergency Service is available 24 hours a day.

Go directly to our National Website for more information on our programs and services.
