Training Centre Infrastructure Funding (TCIF) Program - Pilot Program

Update

The Training Centre Infrastructure Fund program has been replaced by new investments that directly benefit individuals and employers. For example, Budget 2006 announced several new measures that support the skilled trades:

  • The new Apprenticeship Incentive Grant of $1,000/year to apprentices in the first two years of an apprenticeship program in a Red Seal trade. Visit the AIG website for more information.
  • The Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit to encourage employers to hire new apprentices. Eligible employers will receive a tax credit equal to 10% of the wages paid to qualifying apprentices in the first two years of their contract, to a maximum of $2,000/apprentice/year. Visit the AIG website for more information.
  • A new Tools Tax Deduction of up to $500 to trades people for tools costing more than $1,000. Visit the AIG website for more information.

Expenditure Review

In the Federal Budget 2006, the Government of Canada promised to review all existing government programs in efforts to secure $1 billion in savings and at the same time support new initiatives that promote a skilled and educated workforce.

Following this review, funding for the second and third years of the Training Centre Infrastructure Fund pilot program has been cancelled effective immediately.

The aim of this review was to ensure that all programs continue to meet the Government's objectives of value for money, good management, efficiency, transparency and effectiveness and, that they are consistent with the role of the federal government.
