Can I find details of government policy from this Web site?
No. Generally speaking, this Web site does not contain information on government policies and programs. From time to time the Committee may choose to study such programs and policies, but specific information on the government’s foreign policy, relations with other countries and Canadian participation in international organizations is available from the appropriate departments and agencies:
Can I find information from this site on international issues such as the Middle East peace process, United Nations reform, or Canada’s relations with the United States?
Sometimes. Depending on what the Committee chooses to study, some information may be obtained on these subjects from reports prepared by the Committee (see Past Work) or the testimony at Committee meetings, available on this Web site. Other committees may also have relevant testimony.
Foreign Affairs Canada, International Trade Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency maintain extensive Web sites with information about Canadian foreign policy, political and economic relations with other countries, development programs, trade and investment opportunities, the political and economic situations in other countries, international organizations, and more.
Can I apply for a passport or get information about other government services on this Web site?
No. The Committee does not offer government services or detailed information about government services. For information about how to obtain a Canadian passport, please go the
Web
site of the Passport Office. For information about other government services, please go to the general
Government
of Canada Web site.
Can the Committee veto an Order-in-Council appointment (such as the appointment of an ambassador)?
No. The Committee can review an appointment, including by requesting the individual concerned to appear before it. It can then issue a report to the House with a recommendation to the government.
How can I find out about the future business of the Committee?
The notice of meetings for a given week can be found on the Committee Web site.
Whom do I contact if I want to be a witness in a particular study?
You may request to appear before the Committee by e-mail or by post. Opinions on any subject may also be submitted in the same manner.
