Your Statement of Contributions

If you've worked any time since you were 18, you've already started to save for your retirement through your contributions to the Canada Pension Plan.

You'll find the details in your Statement of Contributions.

Your Statement of Contributions is an important financial document. It gives you details on your earnings and the contributions you have made so far to the CPP.

Social Development Canada (SDC) regularly mails statements to selected audiences of Canadians.

The information on your Statement determines the amount of benefits you will receive. Please check the accuracy of the data carefully and let us know immediately if anything is incorrect.

A personal planning tool
Your Statement is an ideal planning tool for your retirement. The information it provides will help you decide how much additional income you'll need when you retire.

How to read your statement
Here's an explanation of your Statement of Contributions form.

It is important to remember that the earnings and contribution information on your Statement comes from tax returns your employer filed with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The CRA will have most earnings posted to individual accounts by September of the following year. If you were late in filing, some of your earnings and contributions may not appear on your Statement.

Is the information accurate?
Any benefits you receive will be based on the contributions and earnings data on your Statement, so please check your information carefully. It should be the same as the information on your income tax slips and returns.

Let us know immediately if any of your contributions and pensionable earnings are incorrect or missing. Also check the accuracy of the information in the top section of the Statement: your name and date of birth.

If you have any questions or there is missing or incorrect information on your Statement, write to us (providing the necessary documents) or call our toll-free number as soon as possible at:

What to do if your earnings or contributions are incorrect or missing
If you were employed, you'll need a copy of your T4 slip or a signed letter on your employer's letterhead confirming your earnings and contributions for that year. If you can't get these documents, we may accept pay stubs.

If you do not have these documents, please send as much information as you can to Contributor Client Services. They will begin an investigation which will include contacting the Canada Revenue Agency.

If you were self-employed, provide a full copy of your income tax return and your notice of assessment for the year(s) in question.
