Parliamentary Privilege

Parliamentary privilege provides legal immunities to Members of Parliament in order that members have the freedom to speak openly on matters of public interest when taking part in parliamentary proceedings. It enables the Houses and Members of Parliament to perform their constitutional functions free from external interference through legal process that might otherwise apply.

Visitors may consider some material posted on this site defamatory. Persons publishing such material taken from this site, even where they have done so in accordance with copyright law, may be subject to criminal or civil proceedings for defamation.
