The purpose of Service Canada is to provide Canadians with seamless, easy access through multiple channels wherever they live - in urban, rural, or remote communities.
We will also be able to assign more of our employees in an outreach capacity in rural and small communities due to the efficiencies created by automation. Additional points of service across Canada could also be created by combining our operations with those of provincial or local governments.
In addition, we know that the preferred way for Canadians to communicate with their government is by phone. We process over 50 million phone calls every year from Canadians. Already, the work we have done to consolidate 23 call centres just over the last year has allowed us to answer up to one million more calls using the same resources.
