Quebec's An Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector

Quebec's An Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector has been deemed substantially similar to the federal law. The effect of the Organizations in the Province of Quebec Exemption Order is that Part 1 of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents (PIPED) Act will not apply to those organizations in the province of Quebec that are subject to the private sector privacy legislation for the collections, uses and disclosures of personal information within the province. The PIPED Act will continue to apply to federal works, undertakings and businesses in the province of Quebec. It will also apply to all transborder collections, uses and disclosures of personal information in the course of commercial activity.
