Computer equipment to be delivered to Education (06/10/27)

NB 1325

Oct. 27, 2006

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (OCEO) is preparing a shipment of computers and printers used during the recent provincial election to send to the Department of Education.

In total, 275 notebook computers and 55 printers will be turned over to the Department of Education once all election-related programs have been cleaned off them. Valued at over $200,000, the computer equipment was cost shared 50-50 between OCEO and the Department of Education.

"This is an ideal, cost-effective sharing arrangement between two government departments," Education Minister Kelly Lamrock said. "Using this computer equipment first for the election process and then within our educational system makes sense, and at the same time saves taxpayers money."

This is the second time the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer and the Department of Education have participated in this cost sharing arrangement on computer equipment.
