FREDERICTON (CNB) - Premier Shawn Graham today announced the appointment of Eugene McGinley and Roy Boudreau as deputy speakers of the legislative assembly. The appointments are effective immediately.
"I'm very pleased that Mr. McGinley and Mr. Boudreau have taken on this important role within the legislative assembly," Graham said. "These two very capable members will ensure that the administrative functions of the legislature continue to operate smoothly."
A native of Chipman, McGinley was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the provincial general election held Sept. 18, 2006. He is the first MLA for the new electoral district of Grand Lake-Gagetown. Following his election in the provincial election held June 9, 2003, he represented the constituency of Grand Lake during the 55th Legislature. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Private Bills, and the Standing Committee on Law Amendments. As a member of the official opposition, he was the critic for interests relating to seniors. A graduate of UNB and a Sir James Dunn Scholar, he holds a B.A. (Honours in Economics) and a Master of Arts Degree (Economics). He also earned his Bachelor of Civil Law Degree from UNB and studied international and civil law in Texas. From 1963 to 1991 he practiced law in Bathurst and was honoured with the designation of Queen's Counsel in 1985. He was elected in 1972 (by-election) and in 1974 (general election) to the provincial Legislature to represent the city of Bathurst. McGinley recently completed five years as Chairperson of the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board.
Roy Boudreau was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the provincial general election held June 9, 2003. He was re-elected to the 56th Legislature in the provincial election held Sept. 18, 2006 and represents the new constituency of Campbellton-Restigouche Centre. As a member of the official opposition during the 55th Legislature, he was the critic for interests relating to family and community services and was a member of the Standing Committee on Law Amendments. Boudreau was born in Campbellton and is a graduate of the Assumption Academy, Campbellton. He pursued his studies at the New Brunswick Teachers College and then went on to the University of Moncton where he received his BEE, BED, and PAC degrees. He is retired from the provincial education system, where he spent 33 years as a teacher, principal, and vice principal. Until recently he was a municipal councillor of the city of Campbellton where his major work involved community services, recreation, and parks.
