If you are carrying on business in Nova Scotia you must register.
STEP 1: NAME RESERVATION
You must reserve your company name. We will help ensure your name is distinctive in NS by looking for similar names that are already registered (In the same geographic area). This service is free.
Submit your request including:
- name
- phone
- mailing address
- Company Name
You may apply online at The Nova
Scotia Business Registry, use our name
reservation form, or contact us directly.
After two business days, contact us to find out whether or not your
name has been reserved. Call (902) 424-7770 or check Name
Reservation Results.
If your name is reserved, you must register it as soon as you begin using it. We reserve names for 90 days only.
STEP 2: REGISTRATION
After your name is reserved:
- A Company officer or director must complete an Extra-Provincial
Corporation Registration Form.
- Appoint a Recognized Agent.
- Have the signatures sworn in person by a Commissioner of Oaths, Notary Public,
Barrister or Justice of the Peace. Commissioners of Oaths are at the Registry
of Joint Stock Companies and at Nova
Scotia Access Centres.
- Return the form with the fee. Use Cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, American Express (include expiry date and cardholder name with credit cards) or cheque payable to "Registry of Joint Stock Companies". Do not send cash in the mail. You will then receive your Certificate of Registration.
Fees: Extra-provincial Corporation: $220
Extra-provincial Insurance Company: $270
Extra-provincial Bank, Loan or Trust Company: $430
You must renew annually:
Extra-provincial Corporation renewal: $220
Extra-provincial Insurance Company renewal: $270
Extra-provincial Bank, Loan or Trust Company renewal: $430
