Business License Application -- Community Status

Eligibility Criteria

All business start-ups.

Summary

The completed application with the workers' compensation certificate and appropriate fees may be dropped off at City Hall, mailed to the address mentioned below, or faxed to (867) 920-5649.

If faxing your application to City Hall, you may pay your application fee over a touch-tone phone using VISA or MasterCard, by calling the Business License System at 920-CITY and using option # 5.

Your application number and business category number are required for payment.

You can reach the Business License System, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The following are the available business categories:

1. Commercial -- $100 (located in Commercial, Commercial Mixed, Oldtown Mixed with Commercial upgrade, and N'Dilo)

2. Circus -- (contact City Hall at 920-5600)

3. Complimentary -- (non-profit association registered with the Societies Act -- Government of the Northwest Territorial Legal Registries)

4. Home Occupation -- $200 ($50 Development Fee included )  (operated from Residential Zone, Development Permit required)

5. Hawker/Pedlar Resident -- $100 (door to door salesperson)

6. Hawker/Pedlar 1 Year -- $400 (door to door salesperson)

7. Hawker/Pedlar 1 Month -- $100 (door to door salesperson)

8. Hawker/Pedlar 6 Months -- $250 (door to door salesperson)

9. Non Resident -- $200 (Business office not located in Yellowknife City Limits, also includes Housesitters, Houseboaters, and Ingraham Trail)

10. Student Business -- Free (21 years or under, returning to an educational institution)

11. Mechanical Trade License Out of City/Month -- $50

12. Mechanical Trade License Out of City/Year -- $200

13. Mechanical Trade License Out of City/6 Months -- $150

14. Transient Trader -- (contact City Hall at 920-5600)

15. Tree Vendor -- $35

16. Tree Vendor non resident -- $100
