View a Profile

You must specify the following 6 criteria to view a Profile.

  • Area
    • The choices are any of the Atlantic provinces or the Atlantic Canada area. If the Profile you select is not available for a province, try the Atlantic Canada level.

  • Business Type
    • The choices are unincorporated (T1) businesses, incorporated (T2) businesses or all businesses. Revenue, expense detail, profit, employment and two financial ratios are available for each of the choices. Balance sheet detail and more financial ratios are available only for T2 businesses. The profitable vs. non-profitable comparison is available only for all businesses. If the Profile you select is not available for T1 or T2, try the all businesses level.

  • Expense Units
    • The revenue, expense and profit data may be displayed as a percent of gross operating revenue or in thousands of dollars.

  • How do you want to see the information
    • The choices are to view a on screen size or a printable size of the Profile. The Printable copy has a smaller font and displays in a new window enabling you to print the report on one page, while the other can be easily read on the screen.

  • Industry List
    • Industries are defined using the 1980 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC). At the most aggregate (1-digit) level, 19 industries are defined. Each of these has further breakdowns so that 76 industries are defined at the 2-digit level, 318 at the 3-digit level and 863 at the 4-digit level.

In Atlantic Canada, not all classifications of industries are operating in the area, therefore there are 201 at the 3-digit level and 374 at the 4-digit level. A Profile will not be available for an industry if there are not enough businesses for that industry in the sample.

  • Selecting an industry may be done using the industry lists.

  • The drop down list will display a list of available industries. An industry will not appear if there are too few businesses in the sample or no industries of that type in the Atlantic region.
