What we do?

NEDA is a strong advocacy group for EDO's. It is committed to lobbying on behalf of its members, by:

  • Voicing EDO's concerns,
  • Emphasizing the value of their jobs,
  • Making others aware of the EDO's role,
  • Making others aware of EDO's potential to contribute to Nunavut's economy,
  • Seeking more understanding and input into economic development funding

While NEDA is a young organization - it officially became a society in January 2000 - it has accomplished much, including:

  • Launching a Web site in 1999 that contains access to business development information, resources and tools, that EDO's can use in the field;
  • Creating a CD-Rom resource toolkit "by EDO's for EDO's"
  • Formed partnerships with training and funding organisations to meet the EDO's educational needs;
  • Formed partnerships with national training organisations;
  • Hosts an annual conference for NEDA members;
  • Co-hosts three regional conferences that give the EDO's a chance to learn about new programs and policies presented by economic development organisations and funding agencies;
  • Undertaking a skills Inventory of all of the Nunavut EDO's;
  • Produces quarterly NEDA Newsletters which showcases upcoming events and training initiatives all across Nunavut;
  • Hold every year, several training programs for the EDO's at the annual conference
