The main role of NTI's Business Development Department is to ensure that Article 24 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement is implemented by the Government of Nunavut and the Federal Government of Canada.

Article 24 relates to government contracts.  Its purpose is to help Inuit firms compete for contracts in Nunavut.

The Policy Objective of Article 24 is detailed in paragraph 24.3.6:

Procurement policies and implementing measures shall reflect, to the extent possible, the following objective:

  • Employment of Inuit at the representative level in the Nunavut Settlement Area work force

To ensure this objective is met, NTI's Business Development Department is responsible for maintaining the Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated Inuit Firm Registry.  The registry is the only authorized listing of Inuit firms in Nunavut.
