First Aid Training Subsidy

The Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board (YWCH&SB) has a subsidy available to assist employers in meeting the minimum Occupational Health & Safety First Aid Regulations.The Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board (YWCH&SB) has a subsidy available to assist employers in meeting the minimum Occupational Health & Safety First Aid Regulations.

Eligibility Criteria

To access the subsidy employers must:

  • be registered with YWCHSB;
  • determine first aid certification needs as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Minimum First Aid Regulations;
  • contact one of the approved first aid training agencies for course dates and availability;
    St. John's Ambulance, Yukon 668-5001; or
    Public Health & Safety, Red Cross 668-5200
  • register candidates in the course; and
  • Contact Tina Robinson at the YWCHSB, Programs Branch (667-5450) to apply for a subsidy before training is started. Applications for subsidy should be received at least five (5) business days before training start date.

Summary

Approval for subsidy and the amount of subsidy (full tuition cost or a portion of) will be based on the following:

  • total number of workers;
  • number of shifts, workers per shift/location;
  • number of work sites;
  • type of work;
  • surface travel time to medical aid;
  • number of current first aid ticket holders employed;
  • training agency and level of training requested and required; and
  • minimum Occupational Health & Safety Regulation requirements for First Aid .

Once a decision has been reached, the First Aid Subsidy Administrator will provide you with a memo advising the results of your application. The employer is responsible for payment to the training agency at the time of registration.

Upon successful completion of training the employer must submit a copy of the valid first aid certificate and payment receipt to YWCH&SB for reimbursement of approved funds.
