The Louis Riel Capital Corporation (LRCC) is a Manitoba Metis owned lending institution created to finance the start-up, acquisition and/or expansion of viable Metis and Non-Status Indian controlled small businesses based in Manitoba. Under this specific funding program a loan of $15,000, at a preferred rate of interest, is available for entrepreneurs under the age of 36.  A portion of this loan may be forgivable, for further clarification or information please contact LRCC directly.

The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is a national, non-profit organization, whose mission is to inspire, support and promote young Canadian entrepreneurs who are between 18 and 34 years of age.  CYBF garners financial support from both the private and public sectors and uses these funds to administer a loan and mentorship program.  Loan clients are required to work with a business mentor for the duration of their dealings with CYBF.  Unsecured loans of up to $15,000 are available to eligible applicants who have submitted a Business Plan that demonstrates viability.  Community volunteers are utilized to help in making the loan decision.

This program is intended to enhance support for the province's Aboriginal youth who have started or plan to start their own businesses. Co-ordinated through the Partners for Careers program, this initiative maintains a province wide coalition of business development service providers to assist young Aboriginal entrepreneurs. Its objectives include facilitating networking and information exchanges, providing youth mentorship opportunities and supporting Aboriginal youth business awards or recognition events. Every year, Partners for Careers hosts the annual Aboriginal Youth Mean Business! EXPO.

This provincial program is designed to enhance the skills of Manitoba's young people (18 to 29 years) who have started, or plan to start their own full-time business.  Approved applicants are eligible for a grant of up to 50% of the course costs or up to a maximum of $1,000.00; ($1,500.00 for northern residents), to assist with the costs of completing an accredited business related training course.  Pre-approval prior to the commencement of the course is mandatory.

This program encourages Manitoba’s young people to start their own full-time, year-round business and pursue self-employment as a career choice. Applications are accepted on a year-round basis from youth aged 18 to 29 years. Under the Young Entrepreneurs program, approved applicants are eligible for a reimbursement grant of up to $4,000.00 to help defray business start-up costs and capital expenditures. All youth interested in applying to the program must submit the completed application prior to their business becoming fully operational and a comprehensive business plan to be considered for approval.

CareerFocus is designed to provide support to high school and post-secondary instructors who help students access career-related work experience.

Under CareerFocus, instructors identify employers who are able to provide employment experiences that are related to the career plans of students identified for referral.  Students have the opportunity to explore career possibilities and may establish contacts leading to permanent employment following graduation. Employers receive a wage incentive to assist in the creation of new career-related positions for students and benefit by having interested and motivated employees.

This program is for First Nations and Inuit youth aged 15 to 30 ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities who are out of school, unemployed or underemployed. The supported activities include, mentored work experience, career planning and counselling activities, including a needs assessment for each participant and life and work skills development. Project proposals can be submitted by First Nation and Inuit governments and organizations from private and non-profit sectors. Projects must not exceed 11 months and must be completed by March 31st. Participants will receive applicable provincial/territorial minimum wage.

Enables full-time students, over the age of 16, to gain important work skills and earn income, to continue their studies. It will provide Manitoba businesses with wage incentives to encourage them to hire students in return for providing on-the-job training and mentorship. Employers who are able to provide an average of 8 to 16 hours per week of part-time career-related employment experiences during the school term are eligible to receive wage incentives for up to 200 hours of employment. This program offers work experience to recent graduates (30 years of age and under) who have graduated from post-secondary studies in science related fields such as forestry, energy, minerals and metals and earth science.  Activities may include all aspects of the innovation or technology process including bench level research, scale-up testing, pilot plant operations, analytical testing, calibration, technical documentation and field tests, and work in the fields of geomatics and geology.  Interested graduates are encouraged to market themselves with an eligible partner of NRCan as potential candidates for internships under this program. Partners include any private company, institution or non-federal government organization including municipal, provincial governments and universities whose field of work is in one of the following sector: Forestry, Minerals and Metals, Energy and Earth Sciences. NRCan will provide contribution funds towards the salary of potential interns for these organizations to a maximum of $12,000 over a maximum of 52 weeks. Organizations are responsible to match these funds and will become the employer of the intern.

For employers, once their advertisement has been successfully posted on Job Bank, they are given the option to 'Perform a Match'. Selecting this option will provide them with a list of qualified candidates for their job vacancy.
