To Whom Does This Apply?

All Yukon employers and employees except for government of Yukon employees and employees regulated by the Canada Labour Code.

Summary

The Labour Services Branch of the Yukon Government's Department of Community Services administers and enforces compliance of the Yukon Employment Standards Act. Labour Services officers are available to answer inquiries concerning labour standards in the Territory and also to investigate and enforce substantiated wage claims filed under the Employment Standards Act. They are also prepared to speak with new employers to discuss their responsibilities under the Act.

The Yukon Employment Standards Act sets out the minimum conditions of employment in the Yukon Territory. All employers and employees must ensure they comply with these standards some of which include:

• Hours of Work;
• Overtime;
• Annual Vacation;
• General Holidays;
• Minimum Wage;
• Maternity and Parental Leave;
• Equal Pay;
• Termination of Employment;
• Sick Leave;
• Bereavement Leave; and
• Time for Payment of Wages.
