Institutional Quick Response Training

OBJECTIVES

• To provide the unemployed with recognized skills to gain employment
• To provide a quick response by public training institutions to skill shortages in industry
• To foster partnerships among training institutions, industry, employers and communities to prepare the unemployed for jobs in growth areas of the economy
• To provide access to credit technical/vocational training in rural, urban and northern Saskatchewan

Eligibility Criteria

•   Training will be delivered by SIAST campuses, visit their Web site at http://www.goSIAST.com  (call toll-free 1-866-467-4278) or for Regional Colleges, see the document Saskatchewan Regional Colleges and Dumont Technical Institute
• Training can be both short term and full certificate programs
• Training will be provided primarily in the classroom and some include training at the work site
• Training must be recognized by industry and/or a public training institution or government
• Training must be directly linked to strong prospects for ongoing full-time employment for trainees

Eligible Trainees

Eligible trainees must be:

• a resident of Saskatchewan
• legally entitled to work in Canada
• at least 18 years of age, or 1 year out of school or a grade 12 graduate
• unemployed, and looking for sustainable employment
• persons who are employed less than 20 hours per week in entry level occupations where the training would advance the person's career are eligible to enter this training

Summary

Institutions are encouraged to deliver programs/courses which include training and employment for the following designated groups:

• youth
• women in non-traditional jobs
• First Nations and Métis peoples
• people with disabilities
• visible minorities
• social assistance recipients

To recruit trainees, training institutions are encouraged to use existing referral agents such as:

• Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services
• First Nations and Métis Employment Centres
• Community organizations representing equity groups

Tuition fees in accordance with SIAST fee structures will be charged for Quick Response training courses.

Student loans may be available to qualified individuals.
