C/MBSC Library and Research Services

Our main focus at the C/MBSC is to help people start and run their businesses.  

Our reference library has one of the country's most extensive collections of business, trade and industrial publications as well as video and audio tapes, magazines, periodicals, newspapers, CD-ROMs, databases and directories. You can come in and use the publications for reference, or borrow our audio and video tapes to use in the comfort of your office or home. The use of our materials is free.

Summary

The C/MBSC Library collection includes:

• Thousands of publications covering such areas as starting and running a business, trade and information on specific industries.
• A lending collection of video and audiotapes on topics such as professional development, human resources, starting a business, business planning, management, customer service, and doing business in other countries  (see our  Audio-visual Loans Policy of the Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre for our lending policy).
• Business and trade magazines, periodicals and newspapers.
• CD-ROMs and databases containing information on manufacturers, importers and exporters in both Canada and the U.S., trade statistics, industry trends,  and foreign and domestic market information.
• Retail, franchise, publications and manufacturing directories.
• General handouts on business topics and trade as well as detailed information on various federal, provincial and private sector programs and services for business.
• Client workstations allowing access to the Internet (see our Internet Use Policy for our rules on Internet usage) and some databases as well.  (See  Internet Use Policy of the Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre for a list of available titles).
• Special collections for French and Aboriginal entrepreneurs (See Special Collections at the C/MBSC The embedded asset has been deleted:

• Special services for entrepreneurs with disabilities.  

Some examples of information that you can obtain are:

• Canadian and some foreign products and services.
• Information on specific companies.
• Industry intelligence and company listings for specific sectors  such as tourism, aerospace, food processing, the environmental industry and more.
• Trade information such as the basic "How To's" of exporting, foreign market intelligence reports, Canadian consulate contacts, and worldwide trade shows.
• Information for small business development including the "How To's" of startup-up, expansion and marketing.
• Leading-edge management and manufacturing techniques and practices, such as ISO 9000.
• Information on obtaining patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs.
