Black Employment Resource Centre

The Black Employment Resource Centres (BERC) are a not-for-profit organization, governed by a volunteer board of directors called the Black Employment Partnership Committee, and funded by Service Canada. Our mandate is to work with other community partners to address barriers to employment faced by members of the Black communities of Yarmouth & Shelburne Counties and the District of Clare. The goal of the BERC is to enhance the employability of the community members and to facilitate long-term employment.

Nova Scotia Cooperative Council

The Nova Scotia Co-operative Council is the provincial development arm of the co-operative and credit union system. The Council celebrated its 56th year of operation in Nova Scotia this year. The Council is governed by a volunteer board of directors, representing co-operatives and credit unions from Cape Breton to Yarmouth. It is the membership, during the Annual General Meeting each year that approves the strategic direction and mandate for Council activities. The activities and priority areas currently include:

1. Bringing all types and sectors of co-operatives together to form a strong co-operative movement in Nova Scotia.
2. Act as an advocate for co-operatives with the municipal, provincial and federal governments.
3. Encourage the development of a "co-operative identity" among the public of Nova Scotia .
4. Stimulate, encourage and promote the development the co-operative enterprises.

Youth Services Centre

Youth Services Centres are focused on E Concepts for youth. We provide free services in both Yarmouth & Shelburne Counties for youth 15 to 30 years of age who are out of school and facing barriers to their goals. Such barriers may include being: a high school drop-out, homeless, lone parenthood & visible minority just to name a few. We can help youth to reach their Employment, Entrepreneurship and Educational potential. This occurs by way of numerous innovative activities resulting in rewarding opportunities and participating youth becoming self-sufficient!

Access Nova Scotia

Access Nova Scotia is a provincial government initiative through Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations designed to improve your access to government information, programs and services. Access Centres provide information on provincial permits, approvals and licenses for business and limited services of the Registry of Joint Stock Companies. Many Access Centres have free computer access and a wide-range of business-related materials in a variety of formats - print, video, CD-Rom and computer disk.
