An overview of the Midland, Orillia, Bracebridge and Parry Sound HRCC area labour markets .

Tourism and construction-related industries continued to fuel the local economy during the July to September 2004 quarter. The area benefited from more retail and restaurant openings and expansions. In addition, a boat manufacturer has announced plans to relocate to Midland.

  • Pinelands Resort on Lake Joseph to become a high-end resort/club
  • Construction begins on a new early childhood education centre for Mnjikaning First Nation
  • Boat manufacturer Doral International Inc announces its relocation to Midland
  • X-Syst Mold Solutions Inc . in Midland closes in August
  • Giant Tiger has its grand opening in Parry Sound mid-September
  • Wal~Mart Canada to open a store in Parry Sound
  • Huronia Regional Centre in Orillia announces closure by 2009
  • EI claimload in the Lakeland area declines by 29.1% from the previous quarter, as seasonal opportunities increase
