Hiring activity across the area started its upward seasonal trend, as employers geared up for the busy summer season. Occupations in sales and services, trades and transportation and in health care showed the most hiring activity throughout the first quarter of 2006. The area continues to see large scale retail openings such as Wal~Mart & Home Depot, as well as other smaller retail outlets, restaurants and gas bars that follow such developments.

- Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Management Headquarters to close in Parry Sound.
- Redevelopment of the Parry Sound & Area Information Centre will see 100 new jobs.
- Microtel Hotel in Parry Sound brings new jobs to the area.
