Project Description
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has received notice from COGEMA
Resources Inc (COGEMA), seeking an amendment to an existing licence to authorize
the mining activities at the McClean Lake Operation to include a new ore body
known as Sue E.
The project proposed by COGEMA is to mine and mill ore reserves associated
with the Sue E development. The Sue E will be mined as an open pit operation.
The Sue E ore will be milled at the JEB mill and the tailings disposed at the
JEB Tailings Management Facility (TMF). No changes are required to the mill, the
TMF or to the existing water treatment facilities.
Before the Commission makes its decision on COGEMA’s proposal to mine the Sue
E development, an environmental assessment must be completed in compliance with
the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
The purpose of an environmental assessment is to identify the possible
environmental effects of a proposed project, and to determine whether these
effects can be mitigated before the project is allowed to proceed.
