Project Description

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has authorized a change in operations at Shield Source Incorporated (SSI) in Peterborough, Ontario. The requested change involves a change in disposal of its aqueous liquid waste whereby the endpoint is now the municipal sewer system rather than a septic tank.

Prior to authorizing the disposal of aqueous liquid waste to the sewer, an environmental assessment was completed in compliance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The purpose of an environmental assessment is to identify the possible environmental effects of a proposed project, and to determine whether these effects can be mitigated before the project is allowed to proceed. The environmental assessment was completed on December 11, 2002, and concluded that no significant effects were likely.

The CNSC maintains a public registry of documents related to its environmental assessments. Lists and copies of documents may be obtained upon request. For questions or information directly related to the environmental assessment for this project at Shield Source Incorporated, please contact:
