Project Description

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has received notice from the Low Level Radioactive Waste Management Office (LLRWMO) of its intent to apply for a licence to possess and monitor contaminated soil at its storage mound at Lakeshore, Mississauga, Ontario. The storage mound was constructed in 1998-1999, and has been monitored since 1999 by the LLRWMO.

Before the CNSC makes its decision on the LLRWMO's application for a licence to possess and monitor the contaminated soil storage mound at Lakeshore, an environmental assessment must be completed in compliance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The purpose of an environmental assessment is to identify the possible environmental effects of a proposed project, and to determine whether these effects can be mitigated before the project is allowed to proceed.

Further Information

The CNSC maintains a public registry of documents related to its environmental assessments. Lists and copies of documents may be obtained upon request. For questions or information directly related to the environmental assessment of the proposed possession and monitoring of the contaminated soil storage mound at Lakeshore, please contact:
