Project Description

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has received notice from Cameco Corporation of its intent to apply for an amendment to its licence to permit a project to recycle uranium product at its Key Lake uranium mine facility. The facility is located in northern Saskatchewan, about 600 km north of Saskatoon. The purpose of the project is to recover uranium from recyclable products from Cameco's refining and conversion operations in Ontario.

CNSC authorization of the project would be provided through an amendment to the uranium mill operating licence (UMLOL) for the Key Lake facility, pursuant to subsection 24(2) of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA).

Before the CNSC makes its decision on Cameco's application, an environmental assessment must be completed in compliance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
