The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) invites public comment on the Draft Screening Report concerning the Environmental Assessment of Cameco’s proposal to blend slightly enriched uranium (SEU), blend dysprosium uranium (BDU) and operate a scrap recovery circuit at its conversion facility in Port Hope, Ontario. This environmental assessment is being conducted pursuant to the requirements of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

The public comment period ends on June 24, 2005. Staff from the CNSC will host a consultation session with the public in Port Hope on June 4 to discuss a number of issues.

The Draft Screening Report is based on an Environmental Assessment Study Report prepared by Cameco Corporation in response to Environmental Assessment Guidelines approved and issued by the CNSC on January 8, 2004.

Interested parties should address their written comments to the CNSC environmental assessment specialist at the address indicated below. CNSC staff will review and address all comments received before submitting the Draft Screening Report to the Commission for approval and decision under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
