Draft Screening Report – Proposed Decommissioning of the Fuel
Storage and Bays at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited Chalk River
Laboratories, Chalk River, Ontario The Canadian Nuclear Safety
Commission (CNSC) invites public comment on the Draft Screening Report
concerning the Environmental Assessment of the proposal by Atomic Energy
of Canada Limited (AECL) to decommission the Fuel Storage and Handling Bays at the Chalk River Laboratories, Chalk
River, Ontario. This environmental assessment is being
conducted pursuant to the requirements of the Canadian
Environmental Assessment Act.
The Draft Screening Report
is based on an Environmental Assessment Study Report prepared by AECL in
response to Environmental Assessment Guidelines.
The public comment period
ends June 23, 2006. CNSC staff will review and address all comments
received before finalizing the Screening Report and forwarding it to the
Commission for approval and decision under the Canadian Environmental
Assessment Act. All comments received regarding the Screening Report
are considered public information.
Copies of the Draft Screening
Report, the Environmental Assessment Study Report and information on the
project are available by sending a request to the CNSC Environmental Assessment
Specialist at the e-mail or postal address indicated below, or by telephone
by dialing 1-800-668-5284.
Written comments on the
Draft Screening Report document should be submitted by regular mail or
by e-mail no later than June 23, 2006 to:
