CNSC Announces Decision on a Financial Guarantee for the Future Decommissioning of MDS Nordion’s Class IB Nuclear Substance Processing Facility

July 27, 2006

Following a hearing held on June 29, 2006, in Ottawa, Ontario, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced today its decision to accept the financial guarantee proposed by MDS Nordion for the future decommissioning of its Class IB Nuclear Substance Processing Facility.This satisfies a licence condition set out in MDS Nordion operating licence.

When completed, the Record of Proceedings, including the Reasons for Decision will be publicly available on the CNSC Web site at www.nuclearsafety.gc.ca, or by contacting the CNSC.

The CNSC regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security and the environment and to respect Canada's international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
