Free admission on Canada Day at the Canadian War Museum - Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 1!

Ottawa, Ontario, June 26, 2006 — On Canada Day, come visit Canada's second largest and second most popular cultural attraction, and discover Canada's rich military history. Admission is FREE!

Exhibitions this summer include:

Clash of Empires: The War That Made Canada 1754–1763 – More than 250 years ago, French, British and First Peoples collided in a historic struggle for North America. This exhibition presents the story of the first global war, which erupted in the backwoods of Pennsylvania, spread to the gates of Québec City and decided Canada's fate. Presented until November 12, 2006

The Canadian Experience Galleries, the Museum's Permanent Exhibition, presents the military history of Canada from earliest times to the present day, as well as Canada's history of honouring and remembrance. Each of the four galleries highlights defining moments in Canada's military history and the ways in which past events have shaped the nation. The Museum's exhibition galleries are designed to emphasize the human experience of war in order to explain the impact of organized human conflict on Canada and Canadians past and present and to show how, through war, conflict, and peace-support operations, Canadians have affected and been affected by the world around them.

The Canadian War Museum will also be celebrating Canada Day with free activities and events.

Family Activity: The Maple Leaf Brass Band
Celebrate Canada Day with the big, glorious sound of the Maple Leaf Brass Band. 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Family Activity: Gorgets and Shako Plates – All Day!
A shako is a tall, cylindrical hat. The plate in front identifies the regiment. Get inspiration from the examples in the gallery and then craft your own shako plate and a gorget to wear around your neck.
