The History of Canadian Cities series was a project initiated in 1977
by the History Division of the National Museum of Man, National Museums of
Canada and James Lorimer
and Company, Publishers. Each book provides a systematic, interpretative
and comprehensive account of the unique urban experience in an individual
Canadian community in a visually attractive and highly readable form. All
books follow a similar format and deal with issues such as ethnic relationships,
regionalism, provincial-municipal interaction, social mobility, labour-management
relationships, urban planning and economic development. Seven cities were
completed before the series was cancelled in 1989.
