Uncover The Meaning of the Scrolls. The first in a series of lectures at the Museum of Civilization Gatineau, Quebec, January 26, 2004 — On Thursday February 5, join Professor Jean Duhaime, a theologian and biblical expert at the Université de Montréal, for a fascinating discussion on The Meaning of the Scrolls and what they tell us about early Western religions and the ancient Middle East.
Professor Duhaime is a specialist on the writings of the Prophets, and on the Psalms, the Books of Wisdom, ancient Jewish literature and the Dead Sea Scrolls. He will examine the scrolls currently on display at the Museum — the Isaiah B Scroll, the Community Rule Scroll and the War Scroll — and discuss their importance to Judeo-Christian tradition.
The Meaning of the Scrolls and seven other lectures by biblical scholars and archaeological experts are organized in conjunction with Ancient Treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls, an exhibition of priceless archaeological discoveries from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem that cover more than 1,000 years in the evolution of Judaism and early Christianity. The exhibition is presented at the Museum until April 12, 2004.
Admission to the Museum is free every Thursday after 4 p.m. Admission to the lectures is also free. There is no reserved seating. This lecture is presented in French with simultaneous translation into English.
Due to unprecendented interest in Ancient Treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the exhibition will remain open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until 7 p.m. Regular admission fees apply.
