Holy War and the Dead Sea Scrolls
A look at the historical record of war

Gatineau, Quebec, February 11, 2004 — On Thursday, February 19, the Canadian Museum of Civilization presents Holy War and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the third lecture in the series Understanding the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dr Martin Abegg, Jr., co-director of Trinity Western University’s Dead Sea Scrolls Institute, will explore the historical record of war in the Holy Land through the lens of the Scrolls.

The lecture is free, but tickets are required. Free tickets will be available in person only at the Museum Box Office starting at 4:30 p.m. the day of the lecture. First come, first served. There is no reserved or assigned seating. It is recommended that those wishing to attend arrive early. Please note that admission to the Museum is free every Thursday after 4 p.m.

Dr. Abegg is Associate Professor, Chair of the Religious Studies Department and Director of the Masters Program in Biblical Studies at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. Considered an expert on the War Scroll, he has co-authored numerous publications on the Dead Sea Scrolls and, most recently, The Dead Sea Scrolls Concordance 1: The Non-Biblical Texts from Qumran.

Holy War and the Dead Sea Scrolls and related lectures by biblical scholars and archaeological experts are organized in conjunction with Ancient Treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls, an exhibition of priceless archaeological discoveries from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, that cover more than 1,000 years in the evolution of Judaism and early Christianity. The exhibition is presented at the Museum until April 12, 2004.

This lecture is presented in English with simultaneous translation into French.

Due to unprecedented interest in Ancient Treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the exhibition will remain open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until 7 p.m. Regular admission fees apply.

For more information, the public can call 776-7000 or 1-800-555-5621.
