$100,000 Valentine for the Canadian Postal Museum

Gatineau, February 14, 2004 - More than 500 people in their festive best waltzed to the strains of a large orchestra at the Canadian Museum of Civilization to celebrate love and friendship on
St. Valentine’s Day.

This fifth anniversary of the Saint Valentine’s Ball saw the Friends of the Canadian Postal Museum offer a cheque for $100,000 to their favorite museum.

"We are absolutely delighted with the enthusiasm and the generosity of our many sponsors and guests that is generated by the St. Valentine’s Ball," said Charles Verge, the President of the Friends of the Canadian Postal Museum.

Among the impressive list of guests was a number of Ottawa’s newly appointed ministers and names of long-standing: the new Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honorable Hélène Chalifour Scherrer, the Honorable Mauril Bélanger, the Right Honorable Antonio Lamer and Her Honor Judge Danielle
Tremblay, the Honorable André Ouellet, the event’s honorary president, and Mr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Many ambassadors also attended the Ball, including the Egyptian ambassador, Dr. Sallama Shaker,
who chose the Ball as the first event in a series that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic
relations between Canada and Egypt.

A special mention was made of the wedding anniversary of explorer Bernard Voyer and his wife Nathalie Tremblay.

Finally, to underline the fifth anniversary of the St. Valentine’s Ball, guests were treated to a minirecital by celebrated Canadian violinist Jasper Wood.
