The 2004 CBC IMAX Film Festival
From the North to the South, from the Earth to the Sea

February 22, 2004 — Gatineau, Quebec — The IMAX Theatre is pleased to announce a fantastic line-up of films for the CBC IMAX Film Festival, which kicks off on Monday, March 1, 2004. For its fifth anniversary, the Festival will transport audiences around the world, on adventures which are certain to stir their emotions and excite their senses. This year, three new releases will be presented: Ghosts of the Abyss, China: the Panda Adventure and Ocean Men: Extreme Dive.

GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS
Presented on the IMAX Dome until June 30, 2004, Ghosts of the Abyss will amaze audiences as it plunges them into the icy depths of the North Atlantic to the wreck of the Titanic. Using state-of-the-art technology, filmmaker James Cameron and his crew make spectators part of the dive team, taking them inside submersibles which provide an unparalleled view of sights not seen since the sinking of the ship 90 years ago.

CHINA: THE PANDA ADVENTURE
Presented on the IMAX screen, China: the Panda Adventure is the true story of Ruth Harkness, who travelled into the forests of China in order to realize her late husband’s dream of bringing the first live Giant Panda to America. This adventure stars Maria Bello and is directed by noted documentary and feature filmmaker Robert Young.

OCEAN MEN: EXTREME DIVE
Presented on the IMAX Dome, Ocean Men: Extreme Dive showcases the capacity of the human body to adapt to extreme conditions. Follow the journey of two world champion freedivers, Pipin Ferreras and Umberto Pelizzari, as they attempt the impossible: diving to depths of 162 and 80 metres respectively — on a single breath of air.

In addition to launching these three new releases, the IMAX Theatre will bring back some of its most popular large-format features. Viewers will thrill to the impressive vistas of Alaska and Central America in the magnificent films Alaska and Mystery of the Maya. Sea-beds and caves will hold no more secrets for audiences once they’ve viewed the wonders of nature presented in Coral Reef Adventure and Journey into Amazing Caves. The first large-format production from Walt Disney Pictures, Young Black Stallion, rounds out the 2004 CBC IMAX Film Festival line-up.

Viewers can take advantage of this great event at incredible savings through the purchase of an IMAX Club Card. The IMAX Club Card offers unlimited personal access to all regular-priced IMAX presentations for a full year at one low price. Cards are just $45 for Adults, $40 for Students and Seniors, and $35 for Children ages 2–13, and can be purchased at the Museum Membership Desk.
