Hear ye! Hear ye! Relive the history of French America with town crier Daniel Richer in his New France period costume

Gatineau, Quebec, July 13, 2004 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization is proud to invite you to a special activity with Daniel Richer, master town crier, in conjunction with our must-see exhibition Once in French America.

In July and August, on the Capital Infocentre Plaza and on Parliament Hill, visitors will have an opportunity to meet Daniel Richer and his sons, Arnaud and Cédrik, who will bring the history of French America to life. “The costumiers of La Culotte du Patriote have recreated the opulence of the court in all its splendour for this exhibition,” says Daniel.

On the Plaza and the Hill, visitors will be able to learn more about Once in French America, an exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Civilization presenting 600 objects and more than 100 illustrations from forty Canadian and international collections. It sheds light on the daily life of the colonists in New France; their work, their diet, their spiritual life and how they reacted and adapted to their new environment. This exhibition, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of French settlement in North America, will continue until March 28, 2005 at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec.

You can meet with Daniel, Arnaud and Cédrik on the Capital Infocentre Plaza and Parliament Hill on:
  • Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17, from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24, from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday, July 29 and 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday, August 13 and 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization would like to thank the National Capital Commission and Canadian Heritage for their collaboration.
