Find out about military life in 18th-century New France Gatineau, Quebec, August 10, 2004 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization is giving visitors the opportunity to see and learn all about what military life was like in 18th-century New France with a special program taking place from Friday, August 20 to Sunday, August 22.
The Compagnie de Lacorne re-enacts the daily life of a New France military unit between 1720 and 1760, with demonstrations of military dress, changing of the guards, military manoeuvres and other activities the whole family can get involved in. For this special activity, everyone is invited to join the ranks outside, on the Museum’s scenic Waterfall Court.
This event is held in conjunction with Once in French America, a major exhibition on the 400th anniversary of French settlement in North America that looks at how people lived and developed new societies. Come and let 600 artifacts from 40 collections in Europe and North America tell you about everyday life in the colony of New France in the 17th and 18th centuries.
