Coffee and Conversation Correspondence in New France Gatineau, Quebec, September 22, 2004 - On October 1, 2004 the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition Once in French America, followed by coffee and conversation with Museum historian John Willis.
Although France was blessed with a postal tradition as well as a rich heritage of trade and travel that facilitated written communication along age-old land-based routes and waterways, this was not the case in New France. Dr. Willis - an expert on the history of correspondence - will discuss the travel and communication networks developed "from scratch" in New France, and how many letters were exchanged across the Atlantic, up and down the St. Lawrence and throughout the continent.
