Record-breaking attendance at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in December Gatineau, Quebec, January 9, 2003 - The Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) has broken its previous attendance record for the number of visitors in December 2002. With 70,560 visitors — 33 per cent more than forecasted — the past month has been the highest-attended December in the CMC’s history.
“The past month has been beyond our greatest expectations,” said Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “This is in part due to the strong public interest in our new exhibition The Mysterious Bog People. The exhibition has drawn great crowds since its opening on December 6, especially with out-of-town visitors wanting to come and see it.”
Other areas of the Museum — such as the Canadian Children’s Museum, the Canada Hall and other special exhibitions on Canadian themes — have also been highly popular with visitors during this period.
The Mysterious Bog People People is being supplemented by outstanding programmes, such as a lecture by famous Canadian author Kathy Reichs on January 23 at 7:30 p.m. Reichs has published several best-selling crime novels based on forensic analysis and anthropology. (Tickets are available at the Museum or through Ticketmaster).
After its presentation at the CMC, The Mysterious Bog People will be shown at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary from October 18, 2003 to February 22, 2004.
