Dancing the Night Away and $80,000 raised to Support the Canadian Postal Museum
Gatineau, Quebec, February 14, 2003 – It was in an atmosphere of love and romance that more than 500 people gathered tonight to celebrate the day of friendship at the Valentine’s Day Ball organized by the Friends of the Canadian Postal Museum.
The Ball was held under the auspices of the Honourable Sheila Copps, P.C., M.P., Minister of Canadian Heritage and of the Honourable André Ouellet, P.C., Q.C., President and CEO of Canada
With music filling the air, business leaders, heads of national associations, diplomats and politicians gathered in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, which was superbly decorated with flowers and candles.
This fourth edition of the Valentine’s Day Ball raised a new record of $80,000 for the Canadian Postal Museum.
A silent auction of Canadian works of art was the setting for a “friendly battle” between many of the guests at the Ball. This new fundraising activity was also aimed at promoting Canadian artists.
The Honourable Sheila Copps was delighted that the Ball’s participants gave so generously to the Canadian Postal Museum. "This prestigious event contributes to the protection of our Canadian postal heritage, an important aspect of our popular culture. I hope this event will help make the Museum and its treasures more visible."
The President and CEO of Canada Post, The Honourable André Ouellet also added: "The Post and Valentine’s Day have a natural affinity. Postal employees carry millions of messages of love and friendship to their destination every year. It is to them that this evening is dedicated."
The evening’s co-Chairs warmly thanked the sponsors for their generous contribution and stressed the tremendous work of the volunteers whose devotion and enthusiasm resulted in making this event a great success
