Italian-Canadian Film Festival at the Canadian Museum of Civilization
Gatineau, Quebec, September 2, 2003 — In conjunction with the exhibition Presenza: A New Look at Italian-Canadian Heritage, the Canadian Museum of Civilization is proud to present The Italian-Canadian Film Festival. The festival will be held in the Canadian Museum of Civilization Theatre in partnership with the Canadian Film Institute.
Tickets are $7 at the Museum Box Office.
September 11 – 6:30 pm
LA DEROUTE Canada 1998, 110 min. Director: Paul Tana. A powerful portrait of paternal love.(French and Italian with English subtitles.)
LA SARRASINE Canada 1992, 109 min. Director: Paul Tana. A sensitive study of intolerance and cultures in conflict. (French and Italian with English subtitles)
September 18 – 6:30 pm
CUBE Canada 1997, 91 min. Director: Vicenzo Natali. Six people are dropped into a 14-cubic-foot room. (In English)
SWEET BLOOD Canada 1993, 13 min. Director: Steve Sanguedolce. An engaging reminiscence about growing up Italian in Toronto.
THE LIFE BEFORE THIS Canada 1999, 92 min. Director: Jerry Ciccoritti. Exploring the concept of fate versus free will.
September 25 – 6:30 pm
ELVIS ITALIANO Canada 2002, 13 min., Director: Andre-Line Beauparlant. A witty documentary about the remarkable Guiseppe Joe Rondisi, an Elvis impersonator from Montreal’s Italian community. (French and Italian with English subtitles.)
THE KISS OF DEBT National Capital Premiere! Canada 2002, 80 min. Director: Derek Diorio. A comic operetta about three people tied together by love, hate, debt, and the Mob. Filmmaker Derek Diorio will attend the screening to introduce and discuss his film. (In English)
The Presenza: A New Look at Italian-Canadian Heritage exhibition is presented by Saputo Inc., with additional support provided by OMNI Television, the National Bank of Canada, and the Ottawa Citizen. The exhibition will be on display at the Canadian Museum of Civilization until September 6, 2004.
